The Water-Babies is an iconic children’s story by Charles Kingsley. Written in 1862–63 as a serial for Macmillan's Magazine, and as part satire in support of Charles Darwin’s On the Origin of Species, it was first published in its entirety in 1863. This edition is one of the most handsome adaptations of Kingsley’s watery, evocative tale, and, with Theaker’s colour plates throughout, every bit a work of art.
