Anyone senior enough to remember Mr Turnip? A 1950s puppet inspired by the root vegetable of the same name, and which starred in BBC TV show Whirligig. First shown in 1950, the show was the first kids’ programme to be broadcast live from BBC. It ran for six years and gave rise to books, toys, magazines and more, including this awesome book from 1952.
