Vintage Monchhichi Monkey, made in Japan by Sekiguchi in 1974.
The famous Monchhichi thumb-sucking monkey toy was a mainstay of the 1970s and 1980s, first released by Sekiguchi Corporation in January 1974 (as you see here), and later licensed by Mattel in the USA, at which point the obsession with these cute, irreplaceable little pals spread slowly but surely all over the world.
They inspired a Japanese anime TV series, a primetime cartoon series in America and a million cheap fakes.
But the one you see here is a Sekiguchi Futagonomonchhichi original. An authentic simian creature inspiring a million memories of childhoods gone by, with a legit Sekiguchi 1974 label and that delightful frilly little bib you see on the early models.
Measurements: 20cm from top to tail.
