What greater keeper of stories than a hundred-million-year-old ammonite, pressed into ancient stone?

Ammonites were shelled cephalopods that have been extinct for 66 million years, almost 7,000 times longer than human civilisation has existed. Early geologists once mistook their spirals for fossilised snakes, but these creatures were actually relatives of today’s squid, cuttlefish and octopus. Stylish sailors of prehistoric oceans. Ancient, mysterious and endlessly fascinating.

This beautiful fossilised rock preserves the life of what would have been a big boy for his species, measuring 14cm in length and most likely from the early Jurassic period. A spiral that once drifted through ancient seas long before humans had fables to tell about them.
