We adore the Puffin Picture Book series, a colourful and educational series of books for children, first published at the start of the Second World War and with some volumes continuing to be reprinted well into the 1970s. They were designed and illustrated by artists working directly on lithographic plates and thereby cutting production costs. What an amazing feat of creativity to have flourished during a world war. This one is perhaps one of the most beautiful of the whole series, Puffin Picture Book no. 29, published in 1948, and which tells the story of British butterflies.
