How They Fly is a simple description of the flying mechanism of insects, bird and aeroplanes. How they have evolved. How they take off. How the pilot navigates his machine. It is beautifully lithographed by the author-illustrator James Gardner, one of Britain's most important post-war exhibition and museum designers. This book however was published just before the war broke out, in 1939, when Gardner’s career was in its infancy (and publishers were still spending money on thick, luxurious paper stock).
