A first edition of one of the most coveted titles in the amazing Puffin Picture Book series, The Clothes We Wear, by the British illustrator and graphic artist Jack Townend.
This is number 64 in the series, and perhaps Townend’s best known work. It tells the story of clothing manufacture, from the art of ancient Chinese silk weaving to the heavier industry of the big northern cloth towns of the 1930s and 1940s.
Every page features the most beautiful lithographic Illustrations by Townend, who studied at the Slade School of Fine Art and later taught at the Ruskin School of Art where he tutored, among others, Shirley Hughes.
A very special book in excellent condition.
