A first edition, first impression of one of the most iconic stories of childhood. A vivid memoir of boyhood in a remote Cotswold village, before electricity or cars, a timeless place on the verge of change.

This is the rare first issue with the mention of 'a fire at the piano-works almost every year' on page 272 (see photo). This was subsequently removed in later printings. Most of the big rare booksellers price this scarce first issue at between £300 and £500. Our price is £190.

One of the great coming of age novels, and a classic of English rural writing.
