Perhaps the most recognisable of all New Yorker magazine covers, this iconic cover cartoon by Saul Steinberg shows his witty depiction of how true New Yorkers view the world around them. Created for the March 29, 1976 issue of the New Yorker, Steinberg created a skewed, elongated view of Manhattan, showing the city as the centre of the world.

The New Yorker published posters of the work, of which this is a rare example of the smaller offset lithographs printed in 1976. (Production of the original posters ran from 1976-1979.)

Steinberg created 85 covers and 642 internal drawings and illustrations for The New Yorker during his career. On October 17, 2005, American Society of Magazine Editors unveiled its list of the top 40 magazine covers of the prior 40 years, and ranked View of the World from 9th Avenue in fourth place. The listing stated that the work "...has come to represent Manhattan's telescoped perception of the country beyond the Hudson River."

An iconic piece of illustrative history. In great condition and ready for framing.
