Tufty Fluffytail was the the iconic and much-loved red squirrel who was instrumental in helping millions of children to learn about road safety in the 1950s, 60s and 70s.

The character was created in 1953 by Elsie Mills at The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, and Tufty went on to appear in books, cartoons, toys, a series of stop-motion animations by Bernard Cribbens, and on flyers and merchandise for the 24,000 Tufty clubs that existed at one point to help keep kids safe.
