Since Raymond Briggs died genuine first editions of The Snowman have become much harder to find and considerably more expensive. We were lucky enough to purchase two in auction last Spring, and now seems like the right time to put the other one up for sale on this website. In testament to one of the most amazing, expressive illustrators of our generation, and in good time for Christmas, for anyone looking for a special gift that will appreciate steadily in value with age.

Who could forget Briggs’ grumpy Father Christmas? But the acclaimed author-illustrator is definitely best known  for this wordless 1978 story of friendship between a boy and the magical snowman he builds, who comes to life after his parents have gone to bed.

Christmas would not be Christmas without The Snowman, a book that gave rise to the beautiful cartoon adaptation that is televised each year, as well as a sellout musical adaptation, that will have you singing Walking in The Air in the shower for months afterwards.

This First Edition, First Printing is in excellent condition with no marks or inscriptions, and just a tiny tear to the inside cover paper. A genuine First Edition of The Snowman is typically priced between £250 and £600 by major rare booksellers. We are pricing this lovely first at £175.
