A beautiful hardback 1975 edition of Peter’s Chair, by Ezra Jack Keats.
This is the third impression of this time-honoured story about a little boy who runs away with his dog after the arrival of little sister Susie, but finally learns to love her.
Ezra Jack Keats believed that every child should be able to see themselves in the books they love, and he changed children’s literature with his amazing book The Snowy Day, in a time when African-American protagonists in children’s books were practically non-existent.
Keats was white, but as the son of Polish-Jewish immigrants to the USA, he knew discrimination and poverty firsthand. His stories broke the colour barrier and became a precedent for greater diversity in kids’ literature.
