There is no other collectable book that bridges the art world and children's book world as powerfully as Andy Warhol's Children's Book.
The now extremely rare and highly coveted first edition is one of Warhol's finest book productions: consisting oftwelve hand drawn then silk screened illustrations by the artist, faithfully reproduced on thickboards and backed in red cloth. The illustrations are typical for a children's book — a robot, puppy, clown, panda and drumming panda, to name a few – but their irrepressible energy is unmistakably Warhol. These are some of the artists most personal works, filled with colour, wit and whimsy.
This small-format board book was published in Zurich in 1983 by Galerie Bruno Bischofberger, four years before Warhol's death. Sadly, however, it was published in only a very small print run. Or luckily, for whoever still owns one!
The condition is very good, with just some minor rubbing to cover edges and dents to cover boards, but no markings to interior boards.
We've valued this book carefully. The big rare booksellers you'll see are typically pricing it between £220 and £350, for a copy in comparable condition.
We are pricing it at £185.
